Project Care Update 9

The project continues to make strong progress across Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Alberta, with significant advancements in participant recruitment, interviews, and coordination of the multi-provincial scoping review.

In Saskatchewan, the research team has completed 28 interviews, including 23 with older adults and 5 key informant interviews.

The Ontario team has completed 29 interviews to date, including 21 with older adults and 8 key informant interviews.

Meanwhile, in Alberta, the team has completed 31 interviews, including 24 with older adults and 7 with key informants.

Overall, the study has successfully completed 88 interviews across the three provinces, representing an important milestone in understanding end-of-life care experiences and perspectives.

Alongside data collection, the research teams continue to advance a multi-provincial scoping review examining the barriers and facilitators to end-of-life care for older adults in Canada. Teams discussed opportunities to engage health sciences librarians in developing and refining search strategies, recognizing the value of their methodological expertise and potential contributions to authorship. The Saskatchewan and Ontario teams drafted the protocol paper for the scoping review and are communicating with the librarian to begin the initial screening. The Alberta team has completed the initial search strategy and has begun working closely with a librarian to strengthen the review further.

As the project moves into its next phase, the research teams are focusing on data cleaning, organization, and preparation for analysis. Plans are also underway for an intensive in-person team meeting in October, where researchers from across the provinces will collaborate on data analysis, interpretation of findings, and planning the next stages of the project.
